On December 16th 2010,@ a farewell Christmas surprise party ,The Monarchs, both retired and performing, presented an award proclamation to the Mayor of Louisville ,Jerry Abramson. After 21 years in office and being a fan of the group since they played his prom in 1964 he received the official designation of “The Ninth Monarch”. Throughout the 50 year career of the band the Mayor has frequently joined the group on stage to sing. The Mayor also gave the band the official “Key To The City”.
